The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed willingness to partner the Delta State Government, in its ongoing effort to improve port infrastructure and services to boost the nation’s economy.
The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman, made this known during her courtesy call on Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, at the Government House, Asaba.
She told the governor that she was in the state to inspect the ports facilities, and introduce fresh ideas into the organization, even as she ensures to carry along all parties that are interested in increased revenue generation for the Authority.
In his response, Governor Okowa congratulated the managing director for her appointment, and said he would love to see the port dredged to accommodate bigger vessels which would make the port more functional.
He underscored the importance of the Warri Port as strategic to serve for better trade facilitation around its catchment areas.
Gov. Okowa also said that the State had started the process of dualizing the Ughelli- Asaba express way with the believe that it would help the quick discharge of cargo from the Port upon its completion.
He said that Delta State sees the port as its gate to connect to the larger world especially in the wake of the proposed industrial park.
